Guest Post: Factors of SEO for Ecommerce

by Brianne

E-commerce websites make money by selling plenty of products online. On such sites, usually an array of products along with their description, price, warranty and other details are on sale. Although there is a lot of content on these sites, it might or might not be identical to the keywords used by web surfers. To add to the problem, content on all e-commerce sites is similar, i.e. they have details about the same products and usually in the lingo provided by the manufactures. This makes it difficult for search engines to comprehend the matter and rate it. Hence, adopting SEO strategies to attract sizable traffic becomes imperative. A few strategies that they can implement are given below.

1. Link building
Submit links of your web pages to relevant sites around the web. Internal pages on the site should be linked efficiently and external links should also be slotted. Refrain from resorting to unethical methods of link building and do not go overboard with it as you might get a bad rep from search engines for doing this.

2. Site architecture
Create well thought out categories on your website and link pages appropriately so that web surfers can navigate through the site easily. Never use common terms like view or click in the anchor text, instead pop in some high ranking keywords here. Embed the keyword rich anchor text on category pages of the website. Provide accurate product descriptions and checkout links on the category page. Make sure that the home page is always 2-3 clicks away from all pages on your website. Additionally keep the URL of web pages clean and short integrating them with pertinent keywords.

3. Keyword implementation
Incorporate as many keywords as possible on every page and within each product description. Thus, people using different keywords will be able to locate your page easily on the web. Text displayed in tables, bold font or as heading or sub headings should be given value and try slot in the best keywords here. Ditch the product description provided by manufacturers and compose text using keywords obtained from research tools.

4. Site optimization
Optimize pages to increase landing rate. Weave a relationship between the title tag and name of the product printed on the page. Add graphics like images and videos laced with relevant keywords on product pages. This gives a boost to your conversion rates as people hit upon your site while searching for photos and videos on the web. Add in common search terms used by web surfers when they are looking for products such as ‘red bike’, ‘flat screen plasma’, ‘cheap camera’ and ‘slim phone’.

5. Customer friendly features
Include features on your site to entertain customers and get them hooked. Add a blog section with informative content to educate customers about products. Present content in a fun loving way to get customers glued. Long tail keywords on the blog help to attract traffic. Also, it is a good idea to let customers tag products as it helps you get acquainted with the slang terms they generally use.

All e-commerce websites should allocate a budget for web research, keyword implementation, content optimization and other site support activities. To sell products online, they should make SEO tactics and optimization techniques as integral part of their strategy.
